Bathroom Remodeling in Maxton, NC
Tub-to-shower conversions, new tile, vanities and proper waterproofing, because bathrooms are where small mistakes turn into rot.
Bathroom Remodeling Built Around Moisture Control
A bathroom is the smallest room in most houses and the least forgiving. It handles hot showers, wet floors and near-constant humidity, and in coastal-plain North Carolina the air outside is already damp for much of the year. A good remodel is planned around keeping water where it belongs: in the drain.
Most of what makes a bathroom last is invisible: the waterproofing behind the tile, the slope of the shower floor, the way the walls meet the tub, and the fan that pulls steam out of the room. We spend more time on those layers than on the tile you will see, because tile does not stop water. The layers behind it do.
Typical projects include replacing an old tub with a walk-in shower, updating a vanity and flooring, repairing soft floors around the toilet, and refreshing the room with new drywall, paint and trim. We will tell you up front which pieces involve plumbing beyond the basics, since larger plumbing changes are outside what Jorge does on bigger jobs.
Warning Signs Your Bathroom Needs More Than a Cleaning
- Grout that is cracking or turning black at the base of the shower
- A soft or springy spot in the floor near the tub or toilet
- Paint bubbling or peeling on the ceiling or on the wall above the shower
- A tub or surround with chips, rust, or caulk lines that keep coming back
- An exhaust fan that rattles or leaves the mirror fogged for an hour
- A tub wall too high for someone with limited mobility to step over comfortably
Our Bathroom Remodeling Process
- Inspect and planWe look for existing damage, measure the room, and agree on what stays, what goes and which fixtures you want.
- Demolition and structural repairEverything comes out down to the studs and subfloor. Any rot or soft framing is cut out and rebuilt before anything new goes in.
- Backer board and waterproofingCement board or a waterproof membrane goes up, the shower floor is sloped toward the drain, and the corners and seams are sealed.
- Tile, vanity and fixturesTile is set and grouted, the vanity and toilet are installed, and the shower valve, trim and glass or curtain rod go on.
- Ventilation, paint and walkthroughThe exhaust fan is checked or replaced and vented outdoors, caulk and paint go on with a moisture-resistant finish, and we walk the room with you.
What Affects the Price of a Bathroom Remodel
Why Martinez Construction for Bathroom Work
Bathrooms are where a framing and drywall background pays off. A soft floor gets framed back to solid. A wall damaged by moisture comes out and goes back with the right board instead of being tiled over. Jorge has worked in these hidden layers for years, and that is where bathroom failures start.
We give you a written scope that says what waterproofing goes behind the tile, what happens to the subfloor, and where the fan vents, so you can compare our quote line by line with anyone else’s.
Bathroom Remodeling in Maxton and Fayetteville
Most of our bathroom jobs are in Maxton and the nearby Robeson County towns, but we also take projects in Fayetteville. Bathroom remodels run a few days of focused work, so a trip from our base is practical when the job is scheduled with some notice.
Bathroom Remodeling FAQs
Can you turn my bathtub into a walk-in shower?
In most cases, yes. We check where the drain sits and how the floor is framed, then build either a prefabricated base or a tiled shower floor sloped to the drain. The wall behind it is waterproofed before any tile goes up.
Do you do the plumbing too?
Basic fixture swaps in the same location are one thing. Moving drains or supply lines, or any large plumbing change, is outside what Jorge does on bigger jobs and needs a separate licensed plumber. We tell you which side of that line your project falls on before you sign.
Why does my shower grout keep turning black?
Humidity and soap film feed mildew, especially in a room with a weak fan. If the stain returns right after cleaning, or the grout is crumbling, moisture may be getting behind the tile and the wall needs to be opened up and checked.
Will new tile fix a soft spot in my bathroom floor?
No. A soft floor means the subfloor or framing is damaged, and tile laid over it will crack. We cut out the bad material, repair the structure and only then build the floor back up.
What size exhaust fan does a bathroom need?
A common rule of thumb is about one cubic foot per minute of airflow per square foot of bathroom floor, and the fan should vent outdoors, not into the attic. A fan that moves steam out quickly protects your paint, trim and drywall.
How long will my bathroom be out of service?
Plan for the room to be unusable for the length of the job, and the waterproofing and tile stages need time to cure. If it is your only bathroom, tell us at the walk-through so we can plan the sequence around it.
